Notre Dame Fighting Irish soundly defeated Army

The No. 6 Irish flattened the Army by a score of 41-9 this weekend. But let’s face it. That was to be expected. The Irish were 35-1 against service academies going into the game. The Army led 3-to-nothing at the end of the first quarter. But after that, the Army came back to Earth and the Irish took full advantage to route the Black Knights. Once the game was over, it became clear that Army was never the obstacle. The stadium in South Bend erupted into the chant, “Beat SC! Beat SC!” and even quarterback Brady Quinn joined in the fray and frenzy.

 

So No. 4 USC is the team to beat. USC has been so good for so long, says Notre Dame Coach Charlie Weis, their excellence is taken for granted at this point. “Sometimes they don’t get enough kudos,” he said. If the Irish hope to take on Ohio State for the championship, they are going to need to beat USC and hope that Michigan – still ranked at No. 2, loses next weekend.
