According to the ESPN.com-Blue Ribbon College Football Yearbook team preview, Notre Dame will have a good set of options as far as the running back position goes. Unlike the QB situation, there is a clear favorite for the starting job and a precedent to follow. Senior Travis Thomas will probably get the bulk of the carries this upcoming season, although this guy could probably get into a competition for a starting position anywhere on the field except quarterback. Last year he was a more than adequate linebacker (he could run down anybody) and he played special teams as well.
Said Coach Charlie Weis about Thomas, “He’ll be a leader no matter where he is. Travis Thomas is going to be on the field wherever we can get him on the field the most to help us win the most.”
The other options for the Irish are Darius Walker, Junior Jabbie, James Aldridge, Kevin Jones and Armando Allen. You might just end up seeing all of these guys playing tailback at one point or another during the season. In order to see all of them play, you will have to watch every Notre Dame away game on TV and see all of the home games live by getting some Notre Dame Fighting Irish football tickets at StubHub.com.
