Notre Dame Gets “Herbie” Awards

The University of Notre Dame has not been getting enough respect these days as the preseason polls and chatter around the league has everybody in college football fandom thinking that this will be a “rebuilding year” for the Irish. Of course, the Irish did make a few of the lists that Kirk Herbstrelt has put together for ESPN.com called The Nation’s Best, which chronicles, in descending order, the best players, teams, fans and coaches in a variety of different categories. Make sure to check it out when you can, even if you are not a Notre Dame fan.

For people who like Fighting Irish football, the list might be a little disappointing. For one thing, the Irish have a distinct lack of representation in several major categories. One area where they make the best showing is in their atmosphere and fan base. They were selected as the number five best student section, and the number five “Best Damn Bands.” John Carlson made a list as one of the best tight ends in the nation.
