Take a Look at Perdue

Just like Charlie Weis, Jimmy Clausen and the rest of the Notre Dame football program, we will be taking a look at our upcoming opponent, the Perdue Boilermakers. You will at first notice that there is a big difference between the Boilermakers and the Fighting Irish in terms of their records coming into Saturday’s game. The Irish are 0-4 and Perdue is 4-0. Though they are not currently ranked in the AP Top 25, they have been getting a lot of votes, and they are, in fact, the No. 25 team in the Coaches Poll. Right now they are one of only three Big Ten teams with a perfect record, the other two being Ohio State and Wisconsin. You might think that Perdue should be a natural pick for a Top 25 team, but they have had a pretty easy schedule so far. They have beaten Toledo, Eastern Illinois, Central Michigan and Minnesota. Minnesota is having a bad year, and you probably didn’t even know that those other schools have football teams. Even if Perdue beats Notre Dame, their opponents’ combined record would be 4-15.

Basically, Perdue has a perfect record, but it’s misleading. If Notre Dame had been as cowardly with their schedule as Perdue, Notre Dame fans might be eating gravy straight from the ladle. Call me crazy, but I have a good feeling about this next game.
