Notre Dame’s athletic department has some good news and some bad news to impart upon you this Monday morning. I’ll give you the bad news first. It has been reported that Frank Eck died on the 13th of last week from complications associated with a heart surgery procedure he recently underwent. Eck will be missed by his family and friends, and by everyone in the Notre Dame community. He loved Notre Dame sports very much. In fact, he was one of the biggest contributors to Notre Dame athletics, giving over $35 million dollars to the University over the course of many years. You can see what he has accomplished fist-hand if you ever watch a baseball game or visit the tennis facility at UND.
The good news is that the Irish have two All-Americans on their men’s soccer team. Joseph Lapira was named to the NCAA All-American first team, and Ryan Miller was named to the second team. Both men are seniors, so their future in soccer, either with the MLS or in other professional ranks looks very bright. This is the second time that Lapira has been an All-American- he was on the second team last season. Congrats to these two amazing athletes!
