Notre Dame Players Make List of All-Time Greats

Joe Montana was named the all-time greatest… college football player to wear a #3 jersey, according to Sports Illustrated.com. In a recent list of the greatest college football players by jersey number, the Irish were very well represented. If you check out the article, you’ll see that Notre Dame football players are all over this thing. While Cool Joe is the best NCAA football player to wear #3, Ralph Gugliemi, another ND QB was “worthy of consideration” for the #3 honor, as well. There are plenty of Fighting Irish players that made consideration lists for numbers 1-33, but only Montana was selected as the greatest of all time for his number.

Are there any players on the current roster that could make the list after next season? Likely not, but you should make sure to check this thing out when the numbers 33-99 come in, because the Irish are sure to be involved with plenty of numbers. Just make sure that checking out this old Notre Dame nostalgia doesn’t keep you from focusing on the task at hand for the up-to-date Irish fan. The basketball team is set to play West Virginia tonight at home. Go see it.
