For a team that’s ranked in the AP Top 25 Poll, the Marquette Golden Eagles are probably wondering why they are playing in the first round of the Big East Tournament. But that’s just how good the Big East has been this year. No. 25 Marquette will have to play the Seton Hall Pirates tonight in the first round of the conference tournament. Check out a story about the game in the Kansas City Star. If they win, which they are expected to do, they will face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the second round. As you probably know, our Irish boys were able to secure a first round bye with the No. 4 seed in the Big East Tourney. Georgetown, Louisville and UConn also have first round byes.
The Irish are clearly hoping that Marquette loses, because they had trouble with the Golden Eagles in an away game earlier in the season. Right now they’re on fire, but the Irish would like the easiest schedule possible, and that would include playing against the Pirates, who are only 17-14 overall. Marquette is 22-8.
