Marquette Eliminates Notre Dame from Big East Tournament

Notre Dame lost to Marquette last night at Madison Square Garden 89-79. The defeat knocks the Fighting Irish out of the Big East Conference Championship Tournament, meaning that the Irish will not get an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. The loss was disappointing, but because the Irish are ranked #14 in the AP poll, and every expert considers the Irish to be a lock for the dance, you can feel pretty secure that Notre Dame will end up on the bracket. It’s just a matter of where. But anyways, about the game…

Sometimes when you suffer a tough loss, it’s best to rally around your own. So don’t go to one of the major sports media websites. Go to UND.com to read the game summary. The Irish were actually up at halftime in this game, and lots of things seemed to be going right. However, in the second half the Irish forgot how to play defense and several runs by the Golden Eagles put them on top for good. Marquette is currently ranked #25 in the nation, so the loss was to a high quality team. Let’s hope the selection committee remembers that.
