Will Clausen Start for the Irish?

Although the Hot Meter at FanNation has this story well into the pink, one has to wonder: is it that big of a question whether Jimmy Clausen will start for the Fighting Irish next season? But, here we are, months and months away from next year’s college football season and we’re already speculating about the starting QB for Notre Dame.

There’s going to be a long, long offseason of speculation, folks, so you had better get used to it. Check out this little blurb about Jimmy Clausen at SportsIllustrated.com’s FanNation subsite. But try to keep the hotness level down, folks.

About the only substantive thing in this article is the fact that Jimmy will be without competition in most of the spring practices- being that Evan Sharpley, his main competition before Dayne Crist gets to South Bend, is an awesome baseball player and will be playing some hardball for the Irish this semester. The extra time will give Jimmy an advantage, but all bets are off once Evan and Dayne get their hands on the most coveted steering wheel in college football.

More from GipperGate

We’ve been busy covering college basketball here at the Notre Dame Blog, so we haven’t been able to fill you in on all the juicy details of the college football world in South Bend. There has been some spring practices, some chatter about the drafting of a few Notre Dame seniors, and of course, there have been plenty of stories about the sweet recruiting class that Charlie Weis pulled this offseason. But there’s another story that deserves covering.

Perhaps the most famous Notre Dame football player of all, George “The Gipper” Gipp has entered the news again. You can check out this headline story at CBSSports.com. Apparently the family of Gipp has sued the people responsible for the exhumation of their relatives’ corpse. As you might already know, Gipp was exhumed in order to have DNA testing done, as it was alleged that he had fathered an illegitimate child. The testing turned out negative, but during the digging up of the body, another relatives’ corpse was bothered. However, a judge threw out the case.
