The Big East has added men’s lacrosse to their extensive list of sponsored sports. Before the Fighting Irish and many other teams in the Big East and other conferences had not been an official part of the conference, as lacrosse was not officially recognized as being under the umbrella of the Big East. However, that has all changed, as the Men’s Lacrosse League has been formed. Right now, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Providence, Rutgers, St. John’s, Syracuse and Villanova are all part of the league, as they all have lacrosse teams. Said Notre Dame head coach Kevin Corrigan:
“It’s exciting for all of lacrosse to have a conference with the profile of the BIG EAST to be actively involved in the sport. For Notre Dame in particular, we are thrilled with the advantages it’ll give us with the quality of schedule and strength of schedule. It’ll also allow us to play in the areas where lacrosse is a hotbed.”
Sounds like a good deal for Notre Dame and LAX fans everywhere. As you know, Notre Dame has one of the best lacrosse teams in the nation, and they are always fighting to get into the annual NCAA Lacrosse Tournament. With the addition of a Big East automatic bid, the Irish will have a better shot at winning the national championship.
