As reported by the official Notre Dame Athletics Website, UND.com, former Notre Dame baseball player Brett Lilley has received a prestigious scholarship to pursue a masters degree in accounting. Lilley graduated last year from Notre Dame with a degree in accounting and now intends to follow the career path even further. Congrats to him, and good luck in the future.
In case you don’t remember, Lilley was one of the best players on the Irish team just a short while ago. He hit in the .290s, led the team in on base percentage and was even awarded first-team academic All-American status two times while a player in South Bend. After he finished his collegiate season he was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball. Although he’s playing for a minor league team right now (the Johnson City Cardinals of the Appalachian League), he still has his eyes on more education, just in case the baseball thing doesn’t work out. The Notre Dame Blog likes the idea of giving this guy a postgrad scholarship. You never know when you’re going to get injured, or just never make it big in baseball, so it’s good to have an education to fall back on. We wish Lilley the best of luck on the diamond and in the classroom.
