The Notre Dame Fighting Irish were victorious in their opening game this past Saturday, beating the San Diego State Aztecs 21-13 before a sell-out crowd at Notre Dame Stadium. You can read all about the game at ESPN, if you didn’t get a chance to see it nationally televised and you weren’t at the game. Jimmy Clausen had one of his best games in his career, racking up 237 passing yards and throwing 3 touchdowns. He had two interceptions, but one was off a deflection off the chest of a Notre Dame receiver. The game was very close until the fourth quarter when the Irish put it out of reach with a pair of touchdown passes thrown by Clausen.
For those in attendance, it was great to see the Irish get a win, even though it wasn’t by as much as we predicted here on Friday. A win is a win, and when you don’t have a pre season, you have to work some of the kinks out in the opener. The Irish did look like they steadily improved as the game went on, especially on offense. One of the most positive things about the game was Jimmy Clausen’s accuracy in the second half, when the game was still undecided.
