Can They Continue Offensive Fireworks vs. Stanford?

Notre Dame had a remarkable third quarter versus the Purdue Boilermakers, but it was one tiny point in over a year now that we’ve all seen the Irish compete at their potential. According to Brian Hamilton’s Chicago Tribune story about the game, “Notre Dame’s Potential Realized, For Day” Charlie Weis said this:

“I think we’re capable of running the football. I think we’re capable of throwing the football. We’re capable of making some plays. But, you know, capable doesn’t mean anything until you actually show it, until you actually do it. It’s a good day from that aspect.”

It seems as though the Chicago area media is taking a bit of a wait-and-see approach to the Irish’s success. Last year they were left with a sour taste in their mouths by the atrocious 3-9 season, so they’re not ready to make bold statements from one good quarter. Fair enough. Let’s hope the Irish give the media one more game to shrug off against Stanford this Saturday.
