Women’s Soccer to Quarterfinals; Men’s Soccer Prepares for Northwestern

Following the Fighting Irish football team this week can be a bit of a downer, especially after the heartbreaking loss to Syracuse last weekend. Add in the fact that they have to play USC, and there’s a lot of bummer stories out there. Let’s hope the Irish can pull off the upset….

But there are also some great storylines coming from Notre Dame, especially for both of the soccer teams. The women advanced to the quarter finals of the NCAA Soccer Tournament after beating the Minnesota Golden Gophers in a thrilling overtime game. Kerri Hanks scored on a penalty kick in the 96th minute to give the Irish the win.

Also, the men’s soccer team is preparing to play Northwestern in the NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament today. This is a second round game for the Irish, who are ranked No. 13. Northwestern is ranked No. 16. If you have any time today, you should get down to Alumni Field to check out the men’s soccer team in action.
