Notre Dame Opens Big East Play with Win over Overmatched DePaul

Notre Dame beat DePaul this past Wednesday evening, starting out the Big Ten Conference play with a highly predictable but nonetheless needed win. While the rest of the Big East will provide a much more formidable challenge for the Irish, the win did prove a few things, among them, that the Irish are mature enough to withstand runs made by weaker competitors. Despite DePaul having a good shooting night, the Irish were able to keep a lid on the Blue Demons’ attempts to wrangle away the lead.

Another thing to note: Remember when we told you about that Bleacher Report which claimed that Hillesland is the key to Notre Dame’s success? Well, case closed. He scored a career-high 17 points and the Irish looked excellent in victory. According to Shannon Ryan’s Chicago Tribune recap of the game, the Blue Demon’s best player, Mac Koshwal, had this to say about Killer Hill:

He stepped up and took a lot of pressure off [other Notre Dame players]. We didn’t know he was going to do all that.”
