Going Around the Horn with Irish Sports

Irish fans are a bit downtrodden these days due to the bad funk that the men’s basketball team is in right now. And yet there’s a lot to be excited about these days if you look beyond the men’s hoops team.  Let’s take a look at some of the cheerier subjects:

  • Women’s Basketball – The women are doing fantastic, as they’re ranked No. 19 in the latest AP Poll.  They won a close game versus a ranked DePaul program, and look like they’re headed for a birth in the Women’s NCAA Tournament.
  • Football – Charlie Weis grabbed another sparkling recruiting class when signing day came last week. Most experts say the Fighting Irish came away with a top 20 recruiting class, which could get better as time goes on.
  • Men’s Hockey – Their 12-game unbeaten streak on the road is over after a loss to Ohio State, but the hockey program is still one of the best in the country. Notre Dame is 21-5-3 overall and 15-4-3-3 in the CCHA, and ranked No. 2 in the nation.
