Notre Dame Fighting Irish defeat Air Force Falcons

Notre Dame Football Tickets are available for the upcoming November 18 game against the Army Black Knights at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, IN. Fans are spending anywhere from $91 to $425 for seats as the Irish look to keep their winning ways going. The Irish trounced on the Air Force Falcons yesterday and won with a score of 39 – 17.

While Air Force fans tend to exhibit a good deal of emotion after losing at home, both fans and players seemed somewhat sedate after falling to the Fighting Irish. It’s as if, “It’s okay to lose to the No. 9 team in the country” has become the mantra of our Air Force Academy. Anyone else bothered by this prevailing ideology?

Maybe. Or maybe not. It is worth noting, however, that members of the Air Force cheerleading squad scrambled onto the field after the game to have their photos taken with members of the Fighting Irish football team. Whatever the case may be, the Fighting Irish continue to impress.

Brady Quinn took the lead for the Fighting Irish and never let go

The 9-1 Irish have secured back-to-back nine-win seasons for the first time in 13 years yesterday. Brady Quinn threw for 207 yards and four touchdowns as Darius Walker rushed for 153 yards and a touchdown. Jeff Samardzija caught six passes for 106 yards and a touchdown. Notre Dame improved to 35-and-one against the Air Force. If the Falcons had any hope of knocking down the Irish, they had to play next-to-perfect football. They didn’t even come close.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish defeat North Carolina Tar Heels

Notre Dame Fighting Irish Tickets are still available for the upcoming November 18 game against the Army Black Knights. In the scramble to catch the Fighting Irish in action, after winning this weekend against the North Carolina Tar Heels, fans are spending anywhere from $112 to $883 for tickets.

The big story of this weekend’s game was wide receiver Jeff Samardzija, who caught six passes and is on his way to being recognized as one of the greatest receivers in Notre Dame’s storied history. Samardzija’s six catches carried the Fighting Irish offense 177 yards on their way to a 45-26 victory over the Tar Heels. Fellow senior Brady Quinn threw four touchdown passes and 346 yards as the 11^th ranked Notre Dame improved to 8-1 on the season.

Quinn was on-point yesterday in a game in which his Fighting Irish desperately needed him. While Notre Dame keeps right on winning, they are not doing so as impressively as many fans would hope as the Fighting Irish defense continues to struggle. The Irish gave up a 90-yard kickoff return and a 72-yard TD pass. It was not until the fourth quarter that Quinn and company were able to put the Tar Heels away.

With Notre Dame hurting in the recruiting department this season, Quinn and Samardzija are going to have to stay connected all season for Notre Dame to keep up their winning ways.

Although Notre Dame has not won all 79 games that it has had against Navy since the two teams started playing in 1927, it has won every game for the past two generations.

Notre Dame fighting Irish upset UCLA Bruins

It would be nice if I could say that there is a storied history between the Fighting Irish and the Bruins on the gridiron. In 1974, the Irish put an end to an 88-game Bruins winning streak, but that was in basketball. Otherwise, Notre Dame and UCLA have only met twice on the gridiron, once in 1963 and again in 1964. The Irish won both games.

And though things almost ended differently for the Irish, the gold-domed helmets remain undefeated against the Bruins.

Notre Dame Quarterback Brady Quinn, under pressure all day by a relentless Bruins defense, completed three passes in a row in the closing moments of the 4^th quarter. The last pass was a 45-yard TD pass to Jeff Samardzija to clinch a 20-17 comeback victory for the Irish.

Notre Dame Remains Focused Despite this Season’s Hype

Charlie Weis, head coach for Notre Dame, was recently quoted in the Chicago Tribune saying that despite all the anticipation and hype surrounding the beginning of this season the Fighting Irish are just going to take it slow and focus on winning one game at a time, beginning with the season opener against Georgia Tech this Saturday.

Weis told the Tribune “We understand that you have to have expectations,” Weis said. “But I teach our players—and our coaches, for that matter—to be very short-sighted when it comes to expectations.”

Quarterback Brady Quinn echoed those sentiments saying “There has been a lot of hype around the season…[but] the only thing we care about right now is Georgia Tech.” Despite that, however, Quinn also said “I’d be lying if I said [a national title] wasn’t in the back of our minds.”
